Boston School Committee adopts a new student assignment plan.
September 30, 2013
(Sept.) Developed by faculty and staff at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the plan retains the lottery system, does away with school zones, and creates a four-tier ranking system based on school quality. Parents are allowed to choose at least six schools near their homes, including at least two ranked as high-performing. Through a complex algorithm, students are assigned to the highest quality school nearest their homes where seats are available.
